The local commerce in Barcelos city centre is quite diversified and is manly focused on pedestrian streets, where a variety of shops from the most well-known European brands can be found, but also, local and national goods.
Most shops are open from Monday to Friday, from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm and from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm, and on Saturdays, from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm. Shops are usually closed on Sundays and national holidays. These are the usual opening hours, but there are, of course, exceptions. Most supermarkets are open later and hypermarkets are open Monday to Saturday from 9.00 am to 11.00 pm and on Sundays from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. In these hypermarkets everyday basic products are available, usually, at cheaper prices.
There are several shopping centres in the nearby cities, opened every day, from Monday to Sunday, from 10.00 am to 11.00 pm.
In the centre of Barcelos takes place the weekly fair (every Thursday) where a wide range of fresh and homemade produce and products can be found.
