Portuguese Language Course

The Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA) offers Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE) Courses in the beginning of each semester to all exchange students that choose IPCA as their host institution.

These beginner’s level courses (A1/A2), organised in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), aim to provide and/or deepen students’ knowledge of Portuguese Language and Culture in order to facilitate their integration.

Duration

Each course has a 48-hour duration per semester.

The first semester course starts at the end of September and end in late November/late December. The Second semester courses starts at the end of February/beginning of March and end in May.

The course has 4 contact (teaching) hours per week.

Course schedules are set after students’ arrival.

ECTS Credits

Each course entitles you to 3 ECTS credits.

In order to obtain these credits, you must attend 75% of the total number of class hours given, and must fulfill all assessment requirements. A Certificate will be issued at the end of the course. The PLE Course can also be formally included in your Learning Ageement.

Upon arrival at IPCA, you will be asked to reconfirm your intention to participate in the course based on your schedule. All practical relevant information will be provided in the beginning of each semester.
