The Polytechnic of Cávado and Ave is part of the European University RUN-EU (Regional University Network), one of the most ambitious transnational alliances of higher education institutions: a European University focused on sustainable regional development.
RUN-EU is an alliance of seven higher education institutions covering all regions of Europe: Instituto Politécnico de Leiria, which leads it, Technological University of the Shannon (Ireland), Széchenyi István University (SZE) (Hungary), Häme University of Applied Sciences HAMK (Finland), NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands), and FH Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (Austria).
In order to achieve its objectives, the alliance also counts on the collaboration of CCDR-n, InvestBraga and INL, as associated partners from the northern region of Portugal.
The European Universities receive financial support from the Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020 programs.
This inter-university alliance aims to:
- strengthen the quality, innovation and attractiveness of European higher education
- offer curriculum programs that enhance the skills needed for the professions of the future
- stimulate the national and international competitiveness of regions
- promote sustainable economic, social, cultural and environmental development
- to be an active agent in the social transformation of the regions, offering them the necessary tools to face the challenges of society.
RUN-EU’s mission is also to provide the necessary competencies so that students, researchers and regional agents can successfully face the challenges of the future. This consortium seeks to be an active agent in the social transformation of regions, promoting active citizenship and leading the creation of a new multinational interregional alliance (European Interregional Development Zone).

Student Council
The Student Council (SC) is an independent board that functions as an active partner in the development and design of RUN-EU. It strategically advises the work of the Management Committee, the coordinator and the work package leaders, with an emphasis on student engagement activities, inclusion and multiculturalism, as well as the implementation and format of innovative mobility programmes.
As RUN-EU’s strategic board, it meets annually in person during the RUN-EU G.A.
It advises, communicates and promotes the work carried out by RUN-EU to all students.
