This international collaboration allows students to benefit from the infrastructure, laboratories, and research groups of all three universities, fostering a diverse and high-quality research environment.
Designed by IPCA’s School of Technology, the new doctoral programme aims to develop research projects in emerging digital technologies applied to process and service automation. These include cyber-physical systems, robotics, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, IoT, 5G connectivity, as well as sustainable and smart energy systems, which together form the foundation for the digital transition in industry and services, particularly in industrial sectors.
The PhD also seeks to attract skilled professionals to equip industry and public entities with the expertise to leverage these emerging digital technologies, driving innovation and facilitating their development. The programme’s strong connection to industry will offer doctoral candidates a hands-on, immersive experience.
As part of the advanced training initiative of the three institutions involved, this PhD aims to contribute to the development and consolidation of competitive and innovative hubs in digital technologies. It aligns its curriculum with the smart specialisation areas of the regions where the institutions operate, establishes links with European programmes, and thus promotes internationalisation.
The programme is designed not only to train highly qualified professionals but also to expand research activities and enhance knowledge transfer and innovation across the regions encompassed by RUN-EU, strengthening IPCA’s position as a leading institution in education and applied research.
This marks the first international PhD programme awarded solely by IPCA. The institution currently offers three other PhDs in partnership or association with Portuguese universities in the fields of Accounting, Digital Games Development, and Design.
Applications for the 3rd phase of the PhD in Digitalisation Engineering are open until 31 January via the following link: https://estudar.ipca.pt/candidaturas/.
